Rules
BRONGO HORSESHOE CLUB
BY-LAWS AND RULES
2011
LEGAL TEAM
A legal team will consist of: two regular pitchers, one regular and one sub, OR
one regular and a blind score. The blind score will be the average of the absent
regular shooter minus 5 points, plus their handicap. The player shooting must
shoot from one end only and have the shoes thrown back. A team may not use
another regular from that night pitching. A team may have a three man roster to
accommodate trick work pitchers. Such team shall declare at the onset of the
season.
* Reminder- Two new rules were voted in for 2009 *
For teams that consist of same family members, in the event of a real family
emergency where neither player can shoot, the team must NOTIFY THE LEAGUE
SECRETARY IN ADVANCE, who will then allow one or two subs to constitute a legal
lineup for that night.
For teams that consist of same family members, in the event of a planned
vacation or other conflict where neither player can shoot, the team will notify
the league secretary in advance, and then each player will receive the blind
score (their average minus 5, plus handicap), and they will be allowed to win
points if the other team does not beat their blind score.
A pitcher may pitch both nights, but not with the same partner.
START TIME
Pitching will begin at 6:45 p.m. sharp, to be called by an officer. A five
minute grace period will be given to all teams. After that, any late team will
forfeit the first game.
RAIN DATES
If play is cancelled due to foul weather, Wednesday night makeup will be the
following Monday night. Thursday night makeup will be the following Tuesday
night. There will be no exceptions.
DUES
There will be a $5 annual league membership fee, payable the 1st or 2nd week,
for each member, to cover needed supplies and miscellaneous expenses. Any amount
left over will go to prize fund.
Dues are $8 per week and are to be paid each week by all. $1 of this will be for
a 50/50 raffle each night.
Any member two weeks in arrears will constitute a forfeit of all team points for
that second week and all subsequent weeks until all dues are paid in full to
date. Opposing teams will receive only game points actually won.
Note: It is the teams responsibility to keep dues current- not the treasurer/secretaries. An opposing team has the right to check current dues status should
any question arise.
CONDUCT OF PITCHERS
No member, while opponent is in the shooting position, shall make a remark, nor
utter any sounds within the range of hearing of the opponent; nor make and
movement that does or might interfere with the opponents pitching.
A pitcher, when not pitching, must remain off and to the rear of the other
shooting pad while opponent is pitching. Pitchers at the opposite end of play
shall stand to the left or right of their pitching pads. No pitcher or spectator
shall stand directly behind stake during play.
* Reminder of Newer Rule *
Those players using the shorter 30' approach can not go past the end of the
bricks while shooting or it will be a foot fault.
Foul shoes must be removed from pit area directly after being thrown.
AVERAGES
Averages will be calculated weekly by the secretary for each night of pitching.
If a pitcher pitches regular one night and subs the other, they will have two
different averages. If a pitcher shoots as a regular on both nights, they will use the highest
average for any club functions and to start the new year.
The options for shooting for an average are:
Use a pacer to throw the shoes back
Use an open pit if available
Shoot another night
Have the other team return shoes
When shooting for an average, all shoes must be shot from one end only!
HANDICAP
Handicap will be based on 90%. The first two weeks of the new season, pitchers
will use last years average for handicap purposes. New pitchers will pitch for
average on the first night of pitching. If a pitcher shot regular on both
nights, their highest average will be used for the new season.
STANDINGS
Standings shall be compiled each week by the secretary. At the end of the
season, all ties will split rewards for the two standing slots shared.
EXCEPTION- In case of a first place tie, there will be a 3 game shootout!!
SCORING
Games: Win = 2, Loss = 0, Tie = 1
Shooting: Ringer = 3, Shoes within one shoe width = 1
A ringer will be counted if a straight-edge can touch both ends of the shoe past
the stake. The straight edge may touch the stake.
Shoes will not be moved or removed from pit until both pitchers agree on any
points taken. Players at the scoring end should check score at least every other inning to make sure
scores are correct.
Pitchers shall alternate first pitch: One pitcher having first pitch in even
innings, the other pitcher in the odd innings.
SCORE SHEETS
Score sheets shall be filled out completely for all three games. This applies to
team scores, individual scores, handicaps, ringers and points taken. Please have
both teams inspect the scores after each round to insure accuracy.
Opposing teams should both initial each game results.
Note: Score sheets not filled out completely shall forfeit all points for that
game. If all three sheets are not filled completely, all 3 games shall be
forfeited.
TEAM FORFEITS
If a legal team is not present by 6:50, that team forfeits the first game. If a
team does not show all evening, the team forfeits all points.
If neither team has a legal lineup, both teams shall forfeit all points for the
night.
For any team to win points by forfeit, they must beat the lowest score pitched
that game by all other teams. Otherwise, no points are awarded.
SUBSTITUTES
All teams will be given names, addresses, and phone numbers of all members. It
will be the responsibility of the teams to find subs for their teams as needed.
** Please do not call secretaries**
Note:
No new subs without an average from either Wednesday or Thursday night league
will be accepted the last two weeks of the season. Any team member with an
average from pitching Wednesday or Thursday night can sub anytime until the end
of the season.
LATE TEAMS (AT ONSET OF SEASON)
Their first night of pitching will be for that night and for the first night of
the season. If needed, their second night of pitching will be for that night and
the second week of the season. Secretary will adjust all scores to reflect wins
and losses. All dues of the new team are to be paid in full to date by the
second week of play.
INJURY
If injured during a game, at the point of injury, the injured pitcher will take
zero’s for the remainder of the game. The injured pitcher’s score will be
their score at the time of the injury, plus handicap. A sub may be used to
